Home Garage Organization Tips
As much as you may dread it, there comes a time when you must tackle one job that you have no doubt
procrastinated over for long enough and that is cleaning out and bringing some organization to your home garage.
Being one of the most important storage areas of any home, it is surprising just how quickly and how much clutter
you can accumulate. Have you ever heard yourself say 'Don't throw it out as it may come in handy one day', but the
reality is that it never does. So, where do you begin with home garage organization?
Start with the part of the garage that makes the most sense for you. It might be the part that is closest to the
front, the part farthest in the back, or even the part that is the most cluttered. Either way, it doesn’t really
matter where you start so long as you start somewhere. Grab some large, heavy-duty trash bags as you will be
throwing away anything that you no longer need. Go through every item that you have and be ruthless. Throw away
things that you no longer have a use for, including any products that are past their sell by date.
Once you have thrown away everything unnecessary, the next thing is to bring some organization to what is left.
Start by removing all items that don’t belong in the garage. Perhaps, there are some products or tools that belong
elsewhere in the house. You don’t have to put these in their respective places right now. Just put them to one side
so that you can remove them when you are done.
For the remainder of the items, sort them by placing like products near to each other. For example, all cleaning
supplies should be in the same place while all the gardening supplies should be grouped together. Continue until
all items have been grouped together.
Once that is done, it is time to look at some storage ideas to make the most of the available space. Because the
space that it offers is limited, it should be used efficiently which means that the garage is a prime candidate for
an organized storage system.
Home garage organization options include a modular storage kit that has parts and components that you can mix
and match together. You can effectively design your own storage system around these units while making the most of
the available space. However, if you have too many items that you keep in your garage, modular storage systems may
not always provide the complete solution.
Cabinets, shelves, wall mounted racks and plastic containers are amongst the most popular types of garage
storage and organization solutions. Cabinets work well for protecting their contents from moisture and dust while
shelves make the most of available wall space. Clear plastic containers help you to store several items and allow
you to see the contents.
One of the more popular and versatile storage systems is the Rubber Maid supreme garage organization kit. The
core component of the Rubbermaid system are the Fasttrack rails which attach to the wall. There is then a whole
range of hooks, baskets, brackets, shelves and cabinets that can be attached to the rails which should be able to
cope with the most demanding of garage storage problems.
When you first approach the job of home garage organization, it may seem nearly impossible. However, by doing a
little at a time, you can certainly return your garage as close as possible to its clutter-free state.
