Garage Door Safety Sensors
To avert any chance of entrapment, a building code regulation was introduced in 1993 that demands all garages
with remote door openers, be fitted with external safety sensors. This typically comprises of electronic eyes and
sensors fitted on each side of the door frame some four to six inches over the drive surface. The electronic eye
works by creating an infrared light beam that extends from one side of the opening to the other. If something or
someone breaks the beam, the opener will instantly cut off and the door will stop lowering.
