How to Choose Home Security Cameras for Your Home

There are numerous different types of home security cameras to select from and although many folks are interested in buying security cameras for their home, they have little idea exactly what they are looking for. Depending on the type of security you are seeking will dictate whether you invest in a hidden micro cam or a dome camera, to name but two of the more common types available.

What good are home security cameras that cannot scope out the area? If you feel like you would like to scout out the area, perhaps you would feel more comfortable with a remote controlled camera. These cameras give you a better sense of security because you can scope out the area at any time you want. If you are looking for a remote camera, consider one that is enclosed in a dome. The reason for this is that you do not want the movement to draw attention to the camera.

If you want to go even more discreet then you might be interested in micro camera technology. These cameras are sometimes no bigger than a quarter and can be easily hidden behind or inside objects. A lot of these cameras already come disguised as objects from teddy bears and even screws. These cameras sometimes do not give you the clarity of the larger home security cameras but as technology advances, so will the image quality afforded by these units. You only need to look at the definition that is achievable with mobile phone camera lenses to realise how far we have come in a short space of time.

Home security cameras are now being equipped with IR technology. Although infrared has been around for some time now, it is only recently that it has become widely available in consumer cameras. The IR device looks like a series of tiny light bulbs around the lens of the camera. They illuminate the area just like a floodlight with the exception that the light is only visible to the camera lens. Even if your camera is not equipped with IR technology, you may still be able to add an IR illuminator.

There are many different options available for those interested in home security cameras. Whether you want to remain completely hidden with the micro cam, or want a dome camera which you can scout out the entire area, its important to find the equipment that is right for your particular circumstances. There are several different types of cameras and they all offer their own distinct advantages.
